Afskraemi - 1. Welcome to our webzine SucivilbO. To start, tell us who we are talking to, how your beginnings looked like, and what the metal scene is like in Iceland, since that’s where you are from.
* O. Thank you! I started playing in bands just over a decade ago, performing mostly at venues like Gaukurinn, Dillon and Húrra.
The metal scene here has always been very solid and we have alot of great bands and festivals. However, recently we have been losing some incredibly important venues to Hotels, Puffin stores and AirBnb’s.
2. Our image of Iceland is geysers, volcanoes, and the film about metal. Tell us more about the country, and whether that is reflected in your album Purification Through Pure Demolition, released this year.
* O. The natural landscape of Iceland never seizes to amaze. But the harsh winds, long winters and short days can be a bit hard to tolerate. It definitely has an effect on the music. Coming home cold and wet from a long shift at the warehouse I work at can inspire some interesting riffs.
3. I know how many tracks the album contains, but what are the lyrics about, and what do you want to convey with them?
* O. I mainly use lyrics to rant about the filth and scum in our society.
I dont think there is any particular message I am trying to convey. Its more of an outlet for me than anything else.

4. I found out that your brother, Gylfi, helped you with mixing. Have you also played in other bands, and what happened that you ended up on your own?
* O. Yes he did and it was excellent working with him. He is also a very skilled drummer.
I currently play in Forsmán and Mannveira as well. The idea for Afskræmi came when I was spending a couple of weeks in a family house at Melrakkaslétta where all the photos are taken, with my girlfriend who also took care of the cover photo and layout of the album (Red Illuminations).
I had always wanted to release a demo or a record where I wrote all the music and played all the instruments. I thought it would be an interesting challenge.
5. The album is released and sent out into the world—what has been the response, the interest from fans and the media? Are you satisfied as a creator?
* O. The response has been very good so far. The album was created largely as a personal challenge to myself and I am very satisfied with it.
6. You recorded everything yourself. Does that mean there won’t be any concerts? And when we talk about concerts, what is the live scene like in your country?
* O. Not a all. I am planning on writing some more material and putting together a live band at the beginning of next year. As I mentioned earlier some crucial venues have recently had to close down, but the perserverance of the people in the scene is quite remarkable. Despite closings, people are still actively hosting events in the few venues left, even having concerts in their own homes or when everything else fails getting some palettes together and setting up a stage somewhere in the countryside.
7. Finally, deliver your mighty, dark words to the fans, and I thank you for your time and wish you success!
* O. Forsmán and Mannveira are currently working on full length albums due out next year.
You can also catch both bands live at the Andkristni festival hosted by Forsmán’s very own frontman and lead guitarist V. & H. on December 18-20.
Thank you for the interview.

Scare the Children
1. Welcome to SucivilbO! To start, tell us who we’re talking to, where you’re from, and maybe scare us a little with a frightening introduction.
+ We are Scare the Children — an horror metal band based in Beijing, China.
We mix heavy riffs with the atmosphere of nightmares. Think of us as the
monsters under your bed that learned how to play instruments… and now we’ve
crawled out to make sure you never sleep again.
2. Horror music – could you expand on that and explain it more?
+ For us, horror metal means telling little horror stories through our songs.
Each one has a double meaning: on the surface you hear monsters, shadows, or
cursed objects, but underneath they’ve got a deeper meaning about real fears
and emotions. To push this concept further, we decided to take on the
appearance of some of those characters we created. On stage, the music, the
masks, and the atmosphere all come together — it’s not just a concert, it’s
stepping into a living horror tale.
3. How many of you are in the band, and what winding paths brought you together as the band you are today?
+ We are five members, each from different backgrounds and origins. What
brought us together was a shared love for storytelling — and of course, for
metal. Over time, those two passions fused into what became Scare the
Children: a band where horror tales and heavy music walk hand in hand.
4. Concerts – what are they like for you, and have you already played in Europe? If so, are they different, and how do you experience that?
+ The live show is where everything comes alive and makes sense for us. Our
concerts are intense, theatrical experiences — the moment when the stories,
the masks, and the music fully take form. So far, we’ve only played across Asia,
in countries like China, Japan, Mongolia, and Thailand. But Europe is coming
next summer… so stay tuned for news, because the nightmare is about to
spread.

5. I’d like to ask about the number of albums you’ve released, where they can be purchased, and all your merchandise. Could you share a link with us?
+ So far, we’ve officially released two albums, and our third one is on the way
— with a few singles from it already out. Our merchandise is mostly sold at our
shows, but you can also see it and contact us through our website:
scarethechildren.com. As for our music, you can find us on any major
streaming platform worldwide.
6. What do your lyrics talk about, and what stories do they tell? Are they riddles or messages for the future?
+ Each of our albums has its own concept. The first one explored the story of a
possessed doll, the second was a collection of tiny horror tales with
unexpected twists — like modern-day ‘Tales from the Crypt.’ The upcoming
third album dives into the shadows of the human mind: it takes everyday
psychological struggles and turns them into unsettling, creepy stories, showing
how fears and anxieties can distort reality. Our lyrics are meant to be
experienced on multiple levels — chilling on the surface, but with a deeper
meaning underneath.
7. Thank you for your time! We wish you success, and maybe we’ll see you at a concert. The last words to the fans are yours!
+ Thank you for letting us step into your world for a moment. To all our fans:
keep your eyes open, because nightmares walk among you. We can’t wait to
see you at a concert, where the stories come alive and the darkness feels real.
Until then, stay curious, stay fearless, and never underestimate what hides in
the shadows.
